Season Review

Writing in the first programme of the season, Manager Bob Shankly said of new signing Mike Lawson - "Only Lawson has no senior experience and the young lad, in my opinion could well become a personality at Annfield." How right he was to be proven. Lawson scored 22 goals that season and topped the 20 mark in each of his 5 seasons with the Binos. If ever a player deserved the title "legend" it was Michael Lawson - a true Albion hero, unlike some of those falsely labelled "legends" after just one good season.

Other new signings that year were Buck McCarry (ex St Johnstone), Jim McKechnie (also from the Perth Saints), Charlie Palmer (ex St Mirren), Billy Little (ex Falkirk) and Andy Stevenson (ex Clyde).

Highlights of the season were probably the games against St Mirren. We lost both legs of the League Cup Quarter Final against the Buddies but exacted revenge with a 3-2 Ne'er Day win at Annfield. That game saw the sort of scenes of crowd trouble that were unusual at Annfield but common at other venues in the early and mid 70s.
