Stirling defeated Forfar for the second time in five days to move to within three points of the play-offs and set up a massive home match against Partick Thistle next weekend.

Albion must first go to champions Gretna on Tuesday night having revived their hopes of finishing fourth by taking six points out of six against a Forfar side without a win in Stirling since 1991.

As at Station Park in midweek, there was an early red card – this time Forfar's Eddie Forrest was the one who suffered after being penalised for blocking a Chris Aitken shot with his arm.

It looked a harsh decision and the ex-Stirling defender claimed the ball had hit his chest, but Aitken ignored the furore to slam home the resultant penalty after just nine minutes.

The visitors were always up against it after that and they lost a second goal after 34 minutes when a superb sweeping move down the left ended with Paddy Connolly converting a perfect David O'Brien cross at the far post for his 16th goal of the season.

When Aitken took his tally to four goals in a week and 11 for the season with a wonderful curling shot into the top corner seven minutes after half-time, the game was effectively over but Stirling failed to push on and improve their goal difference.

Paul Lunan got one back when he seized on a defensive blunder after 58 minutes to lob the ball into the empty net and the visitors had another effort ruled out for offside but Stirling held on for a crucial three points.
