Red Lichties close gap

Arbroath moved to within two points of Scottish Second Division leaders Cowdenbeath after beating rock-bottom Stirling 2-0.

It did not take long for the Red Lichties to hit their straps as they surged into a ninth-minute lead when Steven Doris converted from close range to notch his 11th of the season.

They continued to dominate but were made to wait until first-half stoppage time to double their advantage, courtesy of player-manager Paul Sheerin's low drive into the corner after good work by Doris.

Stuart Malcolm saw his header saved by Stirling defender Callum Reidford while Sheerin blazed over as the hosts searched for a third.

Graham Weir almost made a game of it in a rare attack for the visitors, but his shot went wide and Arbroath coasted home.
