Young Reds Update - Iain Jones

This season is the 8th season of the Young Reds. For those of you who are unaware what the Young Reds is, it is the official Junior Supporters Scheme of Stirling Albion Football Club.

It is administered by a voluntary committee, with the full backing of the Management, Players and Directors of Stirling Albion.

The annual membership fee is £5-00 and members receive several benefits . Anybody wishing more details should contact Jacky Farrell, c/o Stirling Albion Football Club.

Membership

We are pleased that the majority of members have re-enrolled this year but there are a number who have not returned their forms. If you know of anyone who has not renewed their membership, ask them to contact us. We would be interested to hear if there are any reasons why some members have not re-enrolled.

Soccer Sevens

The current block of Soccer Sevens finished on Tuesday, 30th November. This block has been the most successful ever with 96 children enrolling, many of whom have just joined the Young Reds. The Soccer Sevens is having a two way effect. Children receive coaching whilst membership of the Young Reds increases. Hopefully, a lot of these new members will also come along on a Saturday and support the team.

The next block will start on 25th January and registration forms should be sent out in the next few weeks. In that block, Scott Christie, who has been on the bench in a few first team matches this season, has offered to provide specialised goalkeeping coaching. We are grateful to Scott for this offer. We hope that we might break the 100 barrier for registrations.

We would like to point out that only members who have enrolled for the Soccer Sevens can take part. Over the past few weeks, several children who are not members, have turned up at Forthbank expecting to be able to join in. Because of the limitation in numbers, we cannot accept these.

Ten Pin Bowling

The annual ten pin bowling night, with the players, will be held at AMF Bowl, Stirling, on Tuesday 7th December from 7-00 to 9-00 p.m. The cost, which will include 2 games of bowling, juice, crisps and a selection box, will be £6-00.

The closing date for registration has passed but, if you would like to go and have not returned the form, please contact Ian Jones on 01786 464572 to check for availability of places.

We would like a good turnout of members as the players are very supportive of this event, despite having to go to training beforehand, and they enjoy meeting the children.

Stirling Albion Fans Team

We are pleased to see that SAMBA, which is the fans team which plays in the local 6 a side league, is going well both in the league and cup.

Player Sponsorship

This season the Young Reds are sponsoring Martin Glancy. We are pleased Martin playing so well and banging in the goals.

Admission Price

Admission to league matches this season will be £4-00 and not £3-00 as indicated in the renewal letters which have been issued.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Merchandise

This year’s free gift, a torch keyring, is now in the club shop. Members can collect it by taking along their voucher and exchange it for the gift.

The Club Shop stocks a wide variety of Albion goodies and is well worth a visit. The shop was open during the Soccer Sevens and we hope that it will continue to be open when the next block starts in January..

Why not pop along and speak to Fiona who would be willing to listen to any suggestions about merchandise which could be sold in the shop.

Kingsmill Tokens

We have collected 1332 tokens and would advise that we have placed an order for first aid equipment to replenish our current stock. When we started collecting tokens, we had envisaged getting some footballs and bibs. However, we had to purchase new balls and bibs at the start of the Soccer Sevens which means that we no longer require these items. We have decided that first aid equipment would be of practical use.

Again, we would like to thank everyone who contributed tokens.

Newsletter

The first newsletter of the season has gone out. The newsletter contains features on events so far this season together with the latest instalment in the history of Stirling Albion, courtesy of Jim Thomson.

If any member has not received theirs, please contact Ian Jones.
