Former Reds in the Scottish Cup by S. Johnstone

The Tennent's Scottish Cup Third Round weekend saw no fewer than thirteen former Binos feature in seven different games... Tommy Tait at the age of 37 played the entire 90 minutes in an enthralling 3-3 cup tie with fellow Second Division Stranraer, who featured former Albion captain Kevin Gaughan at centre half...Charlie King and Paul Deas both played for Brechin as they eased past Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park by 3-0...East Fife managed by former Binos Assistant Jim Moffat produced arguably the shock of the round with a 0-0 draw with Fife rivals Dunfermline Athletic, no fewer than 31 places separated the sides at kick off. In the starting line up for East Fife were four ex-Binos. Last seasons second choice keeper Scott Morrison starred in goals, whilst Kevin Bain, Gary Kelly and Steven Nicholas all played their parts in a great result...Derek Lyle scored for Queen of the South as they scrapped past Montrose by the odd goal...Andy Gibson, after only returning to the Jags at the turn of the year from a loan spell here at Forthbank has already forced his way back into the starting line up as he played the first hour of their goalless draw with Hearts...Paul Mortimer came of the bench for Alloa as they progressed to the Fourth Round with a 2-0 away victory over Raith Rover...Mark Crilly, still struggling to break into the St Mirren starting II, featured in the last 20 minutes of St Mirren's win over Hamilton who had former Albion centre half Todd Lumsden on the bench as an unused substitute...

Meanwhile former Binos starlet Iain Turner was on the bench for Everton for the third game on a row as Everton won 3-1 away at Bobby Williamson's Plymouth in the FA Cup. Remember the 6-2 cup victory over a side he managed back in the mid 90's......those were the days!
